The role
Similarweb, the NYSE-listed digital intelligence company, wants a Senior BI Engineer for its Data team. The listing's location is Tel Aviv, and the ad itself says the team is in Givatayim. The work model is hybrid. You take full ownership of data modeling and create the trusted source of truth behind the company's most important decisions. It is a hands-on engineering job: you ship SQL, dbt and Python through CI/CD based on Git, use AI coding tools to work faster, and build AI-based solutions that make data central to decision making.
What you will do
- Turn raw, complex data into tidy, well-organized tables that Business Leads and Product Analysts find easy to query for major decisions.
- Work with Product, Marketing and go-to-market analysts to turn abstract ideas into exact SQL definitions and automated datasets.
- Keep the metrics in product and business reports consistent, reliable and logical.
- Work with AI and Data Service specialists so they have the structured data they need for models and external data products.
- Design, build and maintain production dbt models with modular, tested and documented code.
- Treat analytics code as software, with pull requests, automated tests and deployments, code reviews and version-controlled environments on GitHub or GitLab.
- Use AI coding assistants such as Cursor and Claude Code daily for code review, documentation, testing and modeling, and help set rules for using them responsibly.
- Make sure analysts, AI agents and data products all draw on the same data, through documented models, clear definitions and one consistent metrics layer.
- Help build agent-based solutions that provide round-the-clock support.
What you need
- 5 or more years in a relevant job such as Data Engineer, BI Developer, BI Engineer or Analytics Engineer.
- Expert SQL, including complex queries, performance tuning and debugging old code.
- Proven hands-on dbt, including package management, incremental models and Jinja templates.
- ETL experience and a strong grasp of data warehousing on Amazon Redshift or Snowflake, and of modeling methods.
- An understanding of SaaS metrics such as ARR, funnels and activation, and how data logic affects product growth and strategy.
- Hands-on Git and CI on data work: reviewing pull requests, running automated tests on each change and deploying dbt automatically.
- Daily use of AI coding tools such as Cursor and Claude Code, and the judgment to check generated code before it ships.
- Python for data orchestration or custom transformations.
Nice to have
- Orchestration with Airflow, Dagster, Prefect or similar.
- Monitoring and alerting, data contracts and automated data tests.
- Preparing data for LLMs or AI agents, for example through MCP-based access, text-to-SQL, or metrics and semantic layers.
- Tuning queries, models and warehouse use to keep things fast and affordable.
The stack
Redshift, dbt, Databricks, Airflow, GitLab and Cursor. Experience with similar tools counts.
